GST collections rise to Rs 2.01 lakh cr in May

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for May 2025 reached ₹2.01 lakh crore, marking a 16.4% year-on-year increase from ₹1.72 lakh crore in May 2024. This is the second consecutive month that GST collections have surpassed the ₹2 lakh crore mark, following a record high of ₹2.37 lakh crore in April 2025 .

The growth in May was primarily driven by a 25% rise in revenue from imports, indicating strong demand for imported goods. Additionally, the increase in GST collections reflects robust economic activity and improved tax compliance .
