NEW DELHI: Delhi-based logistics solution provider, Skye Air Mobility Pvt Ltd, is collaborating with local authorities to introduce Drones deliver of essential items like medicines, groceries, and food to residents of Kolkata, especially in the New Town area. This initiative aims to expedite delivery times and enhance convenience for residents. Capt Eshaan Khullar, the associate vice president of Skye Air Mobility, highlights the agreements already in place with housing societies and authorities to enable this service.
Skye Air Mobility has secured agreements with 10-12 housing societies in Kolkata’s New Town area to facilitate drone deliveries. The primary goal is to reduce delivery times compared to conventional methods.
The company intends to expand its drone delivery services from New Town to areas like Salt Lake and other parts of Kolkata. Additionally, it aims to address rural areas with connectivity challenges where conventional transportation is problematic.
Skye Air Mobility is actively seeking partnerships with local authorities, including the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), to establish drone delivery services within housing societies. The creation of infrastructure, such as skypods or mailboxes for package drops, is part of this effort.

Drone deliveries have practical applications in delivering samples of pathological tests and life-saving drugs, where speed and efficiency are crucial. Authorities, including NKDA, recognize the potential of creating green corridors for medical purposes.
The company aims to initiate drone delivery services in New Town within the next two to three months, with full-fledged operations expected to commence within six months. Orders for drone delivery will be facilitated through food aggregators and e-commerce platforms with which the company has partnerships.
Skye Air Mobility operates its drones with permission from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and relevant associated agencies. The drones are designed to carry packages ranging from 500 grams to 50 kilograms.
The company emphasises streamlining drone deliveries as a mainstream logistics solution, targeting various industries, including healthcare, e-commerce, quick commerce, and agri-commodity.
Skye Air Mobility has previously achieved significant milestones in drone delivery. It conducted the world’s longest Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) medicine delivery flight, covering 104 kilometres between Baruipur and Medinipur in West Bengal. This reduced delivery times by 80% compared to conventional methods.
