WB Governor Changes Raj Bhavan’s Security Amid Phone Tapping Concerns

West Bengal (WB) Governor CV Ananda Bose has ordered the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to take charge of security on the first and second floors of Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor. This decision follows concerns raised by the Governor about potential bugging and phone tapping at his residence.

Kolkata Police personnel, who previously managed the security at Raj Bhavan, will now handle security only at the main entrance gates and the building’s adjacent gardens. The Governor’s concerns have led to the introduction of new technology to detect and prevent phone tapping. However, some political leaders have criticised the move as a “drama” and suggested that the Governor is attempting to please political leaders in Delhi.

The Governor’s decision to change security arrangements has prompted discussions about potential political motivations and has been criticised by some political figures.

Kolkata Mayor and Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim called the Governor’s actions a “drama” and accused him of not following the Constitution. Hakim suggested that the Governor’s decision was an attempt to gain favour with political leaders in Delhi.

The decision to reconfigure security arrangements at Raj Bhavan in West Bengal is a reflection of the ongoing political tensions in the state. It highlights concerns about privacy and security among political leaders and underscores the importance of security measures in official government residences. Additionally, the criticism from political figures demonstrates the polarisation of opinions on such matters in the region.
