EC must accept Aadhaar as one of 11 documents in Bihar’s SIR: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of India has ruled that the Election Commission (EC) must accept Aadhaar as one of the documents, alongside the 11 other specified documents, for voters excluded during Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to file claims. The court emphasized that the process must be voter-friendly and inclusive, highlighting the need to avoid disenfranchisement,

Acceptance of Aadhaar: Excluded voters can now submit their claim forms with either one of the 11 documents specified by the EC or the Aadhaar card.

Mode of Submission: Claims can be submitted online or physically, ensuring better access.

Political Parties’ Role: The court criticized political parties’ inaction and directed them to instruct Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to assist voters in filing claims with acceptable documents (including Aadhaar).
