The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reported that the government allocated additional funds for the rehabilitation of displaced persons from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), Chhamb Niabat areas, and West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) during the financial year 2024-25, which ended on March 31.
Initially, ₹539 crore was earmarked for the rehabilitation program, but the revised estimates in the Union Budget increased the allocation to ₹689 crore under the category “Funds provided under Relief and Rehabilitation for Migrants and Repatriates.”
However, for the financial year 2025-26, the budgetary allocation under the same category has been significantly reduced to ₹123 crore. According to official sources, this decrease is attributed to the completion of major rehabilitation initiatives and financial assistance programs, reducing the need for further allocations.
As part of broader efforts to support Kashmiri migrants, the government had announced 6,000 government jobs, of which 5,724 appointments have been completed, with the remaining positions in the process of being filled. Additionally, out of the planned 6,000 transit accommodations, 3,120 have been completed, while construction continues on the rest.
