Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the families of four policemen who lost their lives in an encounter with Pakistani terrorists in Kathua district, expressing his condolences and pledging government support.
The deadly gunfight, which took place on Thursday in the remote Sanyal belt of Kathua district, resulted in the deaths of two infiltrating terrorists and four policemen, while three others, including a deputy superintendent of police, sustained injuries.
During his visit, the L-G met with the family of Balvinder Singh Chib in Kanna Chak, Kathua district, offering his deepest sympathies. He then traveled to Londi village near the International Border (IB) to console the family of Jaswant Singh.
Continuing his outreach, Sinha visited Chamba village in Reasi district, where he met with the family of police officer Tariq Ahmad. He later visited the Akhnoor area to pay his respects to the family of Head Constable Jagbir Singh.
Assuring the families of complete government support, the L-G announced that jobs would be provided to the next of kin, primarily the widows of the martyred policemen. Responding to their requests, he stated that their employment preferences, particularly for civilian department roles, would be considered, acknowledging the challenges they face in raising young children.
The encounter was part of a security operation that began last Sunday when police tracked a group of infiltrating terrorists in Sanyal village near the International Border. The pursuit led to a fierce confrontation, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists and the tragic loss of four brave policemen.
