Kathua Administration Encourages Farmers to Utilize Land Near Border for Cultivation

KATHUA: In a move to boost agricultural productivity and utilize available land resources effectively, the Kathua district administration has urged farmers to cultivate land near the international border. The administration assured farmers of necessary support, including access to irrigation, security measures, and technical assistance to ensure safe and productive farming.

Officials highlighted that vast stretches of fertile land near the border remain underutilized due to security concerns and lack of resources. However, with improved infrastructure and coordination with security agencies, farmers can now safely engage in agricultural activities.

Deputy Commissioner of Kathua emphasized the economic benefits of cultivating borderland, stating that increased farming in the region would enhance food security, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of local communities. He also assured farmers that the government would provide necessary subsidies, modern farming equipment, and crop insurance schemes to mitigate potential risks.

Local farmers have welcomed the initiative but have also raised concerns about water supply and protection from cross-border threats. In response, the administration has planned to collaborate with security forces to ensure a safe environment for agricultural activities.

The Kathua administration has urged farmers to come forward and take advantage of various government schemes aimed at supporting borderland agriculture.
