JAMMU: Jammu resonated with devotion and enthusiasm as the city celebrated Gurupurab, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Devotees thronged the Gurudwaras from the early hours of the day to offer prayers and seek blessings. The main religious congregation was organized at the Gurudwara near Bibi Chand Kaur Ji’s Samadhi at Jewel Chowk, where soulful kirtans and discourses on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings captivated the attendees.
Special processions, known as Nagar Kirtans, were taken out across the city, with devotees singing hymns and carrying the Guru Granth Sahib in a beautifully decorated palanquin. The processions showcased martial arts performances by the Gatka teams, adding an energetic and vibrant element to the celebrations.
Community kitchens (langars) were set up at various locations, serving free meals to people from all walks of life, embodying the spirit of equality and selfless service preached by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Children and youth participated enthusiastically, decorating the Gurudwaras with lights and flowers, making the celebrations even more vibrant.
The teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, emphasizing unity, compassion, and humility, were reiterated throughout the day, inspiring devotees to follow the path of righteousness and service.
