Lieutenant Governor Advocates for Promoting Local Languages and Culture at Jammu University

In a recent significant meeting held at Jammu University (JU), the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir stressed the urgent need for educational institutions to take a proactive role in preserving and promoting local languages and cultural heritage. He stated that universities, as centers of learning, have the responsibility to safeguard and celebrate the rich traditions, languages, and customs of the region.

The LG emphasized that regional languages are the cornerstone of a community’s cultural identity, and it is crucial that they are integrated into the academic and extracurricular activities of universities. By doing so, institutions can help foster a sense of pride among students about their heritage and create a bridge between the past and the present.

He further pointed out that universities should become hubs of cultural exchange, not only offering education but also serving as platforms for students to engage with local art, music, folklore, and traditions. In line with these goals, the LG recommended incorporating cultural studies into university curricula, organizing events celebrating local traditions, and providing support to research that explores and revives indigenous languages and practices. preserving local culture is not just about looking back, but also about enriching the future with the strength of one’s heritage. By embracing this holistic approach, Jammu University and similar institutions can contribute to a more inclusive and culturally rich society.
