JAMMU: Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit on Thursday showed its dissatisfaction over non-issuance of Driving Licenses (DLs) for the last eight months in the Union Territory. Manish Sahni, President – Shiv Sena JK submitted a memorandum to the Transport Commissioner in Jammu.
While talking to media personnel, Sahni said that despite fulfilling all formalities and waiting for an extended period of eight months, people are still awaiting the issuance of their driving licenses. The number of pending licenses has now reached nearly 30,000 and continues to increase with each passing day, he said, adding that the Department has been referring to the lack of cards as the reason for the delay over the past eight months. In an attempt to address this issue, individuals are now being advised to download their driving licenses digitally from the “DigiLocker” mobile application.
Sahni mentioned that the department currently lacks hard copies of license card, and individuals are being urged to download their driving license online instead. However, as a result, the Department is still charging individuals for printing and delivery fees amounting to Rs 200 and Rs 50 respectively. He demanded this collection to be halted immediately.
Sahni further informed that a memorandum has been submitted to the Transport Commissioner, highlighting all of these concerns verbally. Along with Sahni, Meenakshi Chibber and Sanjeev Kohli were also present.
In response, the Transport Commissioner has been made aware of all these demands through the verbal memorandum, and reassurances of prompt relief have been given. Sahni expressed hope that the authorities will take swift action to resolve this issue and expedite the issuance of pending driving licenses.
