A devastating accident occurred on the construction site of the third phase of Samruddhi Expressway in Thane district, Maharashtra, resulting in the loss of 14 lives. The accident involved a girder machine, a special-purpose mobile gantry crane used in bridge construction, which collapsed and fell on the workers. The incident has led to rescue operations, with authorities fearing that the death toll may rise further.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday near Sarlambe village in Shahpur tehsil, Thane district. The girder machine, used to install precast box girders in highway and high-speed rail bridge construction projects, fell on the construction workers, resulting in the loss of 14 lives.
Following the accident, police and fire brigade personnel, along with local agencies, immediately engaged in rescue operations. The focus was on searching for survivors and providing medical assistance to the injured workers.
