Poppy cultivator booked; arrests drug peddler in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have booked a poppy cultivator in Ganderbal district besides, arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

As per the Police, on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar-IPS, Police Station (PS) Lar under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal registered FIR against one person namely Shams-ud Din Sheikh son of Mohammad Abdullah resident of Watlar Ganderbal for cultivating Poppy/Opium plants in his fields.

The special Police team led by SHO PS Lar alongwith 1st Class Magistrate Lar recovered Green Bulbs of Poppy and seized them on the spot.

Moreover, a police party of PS Lar during naka checking at Goriwan La intercepted one person identified as Fida Hussain Quraishi son of Late Mohammad Younis resident of Chanthan Lar. During his search, Psychotropic substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Lar and further investigation has been initiated.

Persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with their concerned police units.
