JAMMU, JAN 15: Namrta Sharma, President Women Wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir has ridiculed the J&K Administration for making tall claims of making Jammu a Smart City questioning it that how can a city where people crave for power supply be transformed into a Smart City.
Asserting that no city can be made a Smart City sans uninterrupted supply to the people, the senior AAP leader said that it is most unfortunate to see the people struggling in the ongoing harsh winter days are taking toll on people’s lives who need electricity to keep themselves warm in J&K. Claiming it to the biggest failure of the incumbent dispensation as of today, she said that the people had to remain contented without power supply even on the festivals like Lohri and Makar Sankranti.
In a statement issued here today, Namrta Sharma said that the government must at least provide subsidy on power tariff during the four months of winter especially due to the fact that unscheduled power cuts have become the order of the day in the incumbent proxy government of BJP. She said that in absence of jobs and work, many households are unable to pay huge electricity bills. Moreover, people are being slapped exorbitant electricity bills which amounts to gross injustice with them, she added.
The AAP leader said that frequent power cuts having become a regular feature is making it difficult for children to study which is going to have a far reaching impact on the future of these children. While officials are enjoying heating arrangements in their offices, secretariats and even government residential accommodations, the common people are suffering enormously.
Earlier government used to ensure that there are no power cuts on festival days but this time power was not available even during Lohri and Makar Sankranti festivals, she said, asking the Administration to first ensure uninterrupted power supply to Jammu and then only make claims of transforming it into Smart City.
