The bone samples collected by the Delhi police from Mehrauli forest have matched Shraddha Walkar’s father’s DNA, according to reports. Shraddha was allegedly strangled by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala on May 18, who chopped her body into multiple pieces are disposed of them in the forest area over a span of several days.
“A few bone samples matched the DNA of Shraddha’s father, clarifying that they belonged to Shraddha. They were collected by Delhi Police from the jungles of Mehrauli and Gurugram,” ANI tweeted on Thursday.
The police had recovered 13 bone samples from the Mehrauli forest area. Aftab, who was arrested in November, underwent narco test and multiple rounds of the polygraph tests. According to reports, Aftab showed no signs of remorse during the polygraph tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini. Though confessions during these tests cannot be produced as evidence in court, these techniques are used by investigating agencies to get to the truth and gather evidence.
Aftab met Shraddha on ‘Bumble’ and started dating each other. They together worked at a call centre in Mumbai before moving to Delhi’s Mehrauli earlier this year due to their families’ objection to their relationship. The couple were allegedly engaged in frequent arguments after she pressurised him to marry her.
Speaking to the media after meeting Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis recently, Shraddha’s father Vikas Walkar demanded capital punishment for Aftab and said he had full faith in the judiciary. He also blamed the Maharashtra police’s inaction for his daughter’s death. “My daughter was brutally murdered. I faced many problems because of the Vasai police, if they would have helped me, my daughter would have been alive,” he said. Shraddha had submitted a written complaint to Tulinj police in November 2020, in which she alleged Aftab was threatening to kill her.
