On August 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of India directed Samay Raina and four other comedians—Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar (Sonali Aditya Desai), and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar—to issue public, unconditional apologies on their YouTube channels and other platforms. This was in response to their “insensitive remarks” targeting persons with disabilities, including individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and visual impairments. News Jammu
The Court emphasized that freedom of expression does not shield commercial content that demeans marginalized communities, and that such content violates the dignity of persons with disabilities.
The Supreme Court also called for the formulation of guidelines to regulate content on social media platforms—specifically to curb offensive speech targeting persons with disabilities, women, children, and senior citizens. The Attorney General, R. Venkataramani, is to assist in creating such frameworks.
While the apologies are being mandated now, the question of penalties or costs will be addressed in future hearings. Best News In Jammu
