India to mark second National Space Day on August 23, focus on human spaceflight

August 23 is observed as National Space Day to commemorate the Chandrayaan‑3 mission’s historic soft landing on the Moon’s south polar region in 2023—a first of its kind. India thus became the fourth nation to land on the Moon and the first near its southern pole. The landing site was named Shiv‑Shakti Point

The theme for 2025 is “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities”, symbolizing India’s journey from its ancient astronomical heritage to its future in human spaceflight.

The main ceremony was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, featuring dignitaries, scientists, and students. It was streamed live via ISRO’s platforms.

Highlights included exhibitions like “Space on Wheels”, educational workshops, quizzes, blockbuster events like the ISRO Robotics Challenge, and outreach programs in schools and colleges.

In Lucknow, schools inaugurated a new NCERT module titled “India – A Rising Space Power”, complemented by interactive assemblies, expert lectures, and educational resources
