Vijay Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order in Jammu and Kashmir, has been transferred to the Delhi segment of the AGMUT cadre by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), effective immediately. Kumar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, will continue in this role until further orders are issued.
In his previous position, Kumar held additional responsibilities, including ADGP for Armed Police, Civil Guards, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and the State Disaster Response Force in J&K. His work in sensitive districts such as Pulwama, Kulgam, and Anantnag earned him a reputation as an expert in anti-terrorism and anti-Maoist operations. He notably served as the IGP of Kashmir from December 2019 and took over as ADGP Law and Order in November 2023.
Kumar is known for his calm, effective approach to policing, achieving results while maintaining a low profile. His leadership during critical periods in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in overseeing law and order in the region, was widely recognized.
