BJP MP Questions Carrying of Weapons at Hindu Outfit’s Rally, Opposition Reacts

Communal clashes in Haryana’s Nuh district, following a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally, have triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties and BJP MP Rao Inderjit Singh. The MP raised questions about the carrying of weapons during the procession, leading to clashes.

Rao Inderjit Singh was quoted as saying, “Who gave weapons to them for the procession? Who goes to a procession carrying swords or sticks? This is wrong.” However, he later mentioned that both groups would be investigated for how they acquired weapons.

VHP International working president Alok Kumar criticised Singh’s remarks, claiming that the MP only noticed sticks carried by the VHP and not weapons used by the other side.

Opposition parties, including Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, also questioned the law and order situation in Haryana. They criticised the government for allowing weapons to be carried in religious processions and the handling of the situation.

The clashes resulted in six deaths, including two home guards, and led to curfew imposition and Section 144 in adjoining districts. The Haryana government arrested 116 individuals in connection with the violence.

Chief Minister Khattar referred to the attack on the VHP procession as part of a larger conspiracy, while the VHP demanded a National Investigation Agency probe.
