Kolkata police detective department has arrested a 42-year-old man, Indrajit Banerjee, who had been on the run for 11 years after allegedly cheating people by posing as a travel agent. Banerjee was wanted in eight cheating cases registered against him in various police stations across the city.
According to Kolkata police sources, Banerjee used to introduce himself as a travel agent and promised customers discounted flight tickets. However, after receiving payments from the victims, he failed to deliver the promised tickets and also did not refund their money.
The cases against Banerjee are spread across police stations in Tollygunge, New Alipore, Garfa, Survey Park, Charu Market, Jadavpur, Rabindra Sarobar, and Park Street. Some of these cases date back to 2012.
Despite evading arrest for more than a decade, the long arm of the law finally caught up with him. Indrajit Banerjee was apprehended on Wednesday evening near Rabindra Sadan after a persistent effort by the police.
