A Bharatiya Janata Party – BJP worker, Shakunthala, has been arrested by the Karnataka Police for a derogatory tweet targeting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The tweet was made in response to a Congress party’s tweet that defended the video incident involving students in a Udupi paramedical college.
The Congress party’s tweet stated that the BJP was using the video incident as a political weapon. In response, Shakunthala HS questioned whether the Chief Minister would still defend the video if it involved his daughter-in-law or wife. The alleged derogatory posts were shared on Twitter and Facebook.
A complaint was filed at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru, leading to Shakunthala HS’s arrest after the police registered a case against her.

The incident in question involved three female students from a paramedical college in Udupi who were reportedly found filming their fellow student in the washroom without her consent. The students have been suspended, and an FIR has been registered against them and the college authorities for failing to furnish evidence.
While the incident came to light last week, it received public attention when a student discovered a mobile phone in the toilet and reported it to the college administration. An investigation revealed no compromising content, and the student opted not to file a police report. However, the college administration reported the incident to the police, leading to the suspension of the three students.
Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara emphasised that the government takes the incident seriously, responding to the BJP’s protests in Udupi. The BJP has demanded that the case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency for further investigation.
The incident has sparked controversy and public agitation, prompting authorities to address the matter seriously and ensure a thorough investigation.
